The Eisack Valley, South Tyrol and the Dolomites ….. are an El Dorado for hiking fans, mountaineers and climbers ….. not only when the Alpine roses are in full bloom! Bressanone/Brixen is the ideal starting point for hiking trips into the low and high mountain ranges.
Bressanone/Brixen‘s mountain, the
Plose, reaches a height of about 2,500 metres and can be reached in about 20 minutes. It is particularly known for its breath-taking
360° panoramic views: from the Ziller Valley Alps to the Dolomites and even further to the Ortler group. Every hiking trip will offer you new impressions and insights. Walk across the Alpine meadows to the
Rodengo/Rodenecker Alm, the most beautiful mountain village in South Tyrol, the
Fane Alm and the
Alpe di Villandro/Villanderer Hochalm. The malga Latzfons Alm welcomes you with its pilgrimage church, which is at a higher altitude than any other in Europe, as well as the Latzfons Cross. You can experience something really special with the sunrise at
Sasso de Putia/Peitlerkofel, a hiking trip to the
Alpe di Lusòn/Lüsn Alm or to
Tre Chiese/Dreikirchen. The
themed hiking routes in the Isarco/Eisack Valley region are the
Sentiero S. Giacomo/Jakobsweg, the
Ketschnweg (chestnut route), the
canyon hiking trip Gilfenklamm, the European Highway no. 2, the Brixen Highway, the
’Dolomieu-Sechs-Almen-Weg ‘ (route through six Alpine meadows), as well as the
‘Walther von der Vogelweide’ route.
About 30 minutes from Bressanone/Brixen, you come to the
Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm, the highest Alpine meadow region in Europe with its famous Sciliar/Schlern mountain massif. Here, you can find numerous hiking possibilities ….. from a less demanding family trip to a medium tour and a day tour.
Also, about 30 minutes by car, you will come to the
Val di Funes/Villnöss Valley, where Reinhold Messner was born. The natural area is preserved as part of the UNESCO World Heritage scheme. With the S. Maddalena/St. Magdalene chapel in the forefront and the Odles/Geisler Peaks in the background, it offers a most picturesque impression. In this area, you can also find rare, wild orchids.
East from Bressanone/Brixen, you come to the
Puster Valley with the Dolomiti di Braies/
Pragser Dolomites, Dolomiti di Sesto/Sexten Dolomites and the
Gruppo delle Vedrette di Ries/ Rieserferner-Ahrn group of mountains. Beside numerous Alpine and circular hiking trips, there are also a number of demanding climbing routes and you can visit war memorials such as the Monte Piana and the Lagazuoi - 5 Torri.
Highly recommended is an excursion into the
Ladin Alta Badia (1 hour by car) or a visit to the
Dolomite town of Cortina (1.5 hours by car), where in 1956 the Winter Olympic Games were held.
